Southern Spain in late autumn offers a rich array of birdlife with an impressive range of over-wintering birds including some rarely seen in Britain like the Black Wheatear, Booted Eagle, Crested Lark, Flamingo, Glossy Ibis, Hoopoe and Sardinian Warbler.
During our retreat we will be visiting several local nature reserves including the internationally renowned Parc Natural EL FONDO which is home to unusual ducks like the Marbled Duck and Red-crested Pochard. You can expect some short distance walks, but the pace will be slow and easy going with plenty of stops to watch birds.
El Palmeral is a delightful cosy and family run retreat holiday centre run by Mike and Julie Jowett. Their centre has a poustinia for private prayer, chapel, labyrinth, outdoor swimming pool, sun terrace and bar. That pool will probably be closed by the date we arrive, but it was still being used in November 2022 when the temperature reached 27C! Whatever the weather, you can expect comfort and some great home cooked Spanish cuisine.
